There are numerous ''Ways", however, the most popular way of reaching Santiago de Compostela is via the "French Way". Originating in St. Jean Pied de Port, the French Way, winds through the Pyrenees Mountains and across the plains and hills of northern Spain until finally reaching the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. When Pilgrims reach this Cathedral dedicated to the life and works of the disciple Saint James, a mass is held and the pilgrims can receive a certificate proving that they have completed the arduous journey.

     - The French Way had its first pilgrimage in the 10th Century AD.

     - It received its name from being the route through which the many French Catholics traveled in order to receive pardon from their sins and to visit the tomb of St. James.
