Packing Lists

Hey, Everyone! :)

Here are our little group's packing lists. We are going on El Camino de Santiago in early March and the weather in Spain around this time of year is normally in the fifties or low sixties and I've heard it would be rainy which would explain some of the items on the lists. Most of the packing lists I have read so far were for summer trips, and those pilgrims took shorts and tank tops to wear. I'm really not sure what the climate will be so I tried to pack clothes that would keep me warm if it turns out to be cooler but I also made sure to bring a pair of shorts in case the temperature is higher than expected. I also tried to think in layers. If things get colder I will wear my Cuddl Duds silk shirt and long underwear under my hiking pants (which are thin and quick drying by the way, another key concept to keep in mind when packing for a rainy season) and probably a button down and some kind of jacket on top, either my rain jacket as a wind breaker or my fleece. If the weather warms up I'll wear my shorts and a button down. Simple and light and also quick drying :).
I am an 18 year old girl who had to learn to pack light! Although looking at how long my list is I'm not sure I really learned how to whittle down to the life essentials... I'll admit I allowed myself some luxuries. I guess I'll find out how great my need for make-up and such really is after we've walked for a few days on the trail. I've read a few stories of people shipping extra pairs of pants or other things back home to lighten their load, but I believe they did the whole French Way which is MUCH longer than the segment of the trail we will be on. I don't think the weight of the packs will be as much of an issue for us since we'll only be walking for six days. The recommended weight for you backpack is one tenth of your weight.. I'll tell you, I don't think my backpack weighs less than 12 pounds. It is difficult to live off of such a small load but it is possible.
The other members of our group are my forty-something-year-old father, Jerry Wright, and my nineteen-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Hornsby. Their lists differ from mine as much as they themselves are different from me. I think its helpful to see how someone similar to you might pack though. I had to search specifically for a woman's packing list to get an example of what to take. So here we have in one place, just for you, three different packing lists.

Hope this helps! Happy packing!

-Taylor

    1. I like the Tilley hat because it's pretty much indestructible (which is important for me) and if anything happens to it it can be replaced. Plas I think it looks cool and it provides great shade. Only thing to watch out for is the Velcro on the handy pocket inside the top of the hat. If the chin strap string get caught by that it will pull and pick the string to pieces. The strin can be replaced too but t will save you trouble if you just keep that in mind.

    3. BayLee - a shemagh is a big neckerchief like you see soldiers wearing. They are bigger than most neckerchiefs, though, and you can wear them as a scarf around your neck, as a bandana around your face, or as a hat. It will also be a backup towel. Everything should have multiple uses.
